About
Jose brings extensive knowledge of, and experience with, the institutional emerging markets investor base in the United States and Canada, having lived and worked on both the east and west coast, and consequently having serviced most of the top emerging markets investors over the 22 years he spent in institutional equity sales.
Experience
Jose began his career in 1987, in brand management at Procter and Gamble in the Philippines, where he worked on Ivory Soap and Tide Detergent. He left packaged consumer goods in 1989 for the marketing department of the Consumer Banking Group of Citibank in Manila. He left Manila for Jakarta, Indonesia in 1990, when he joined Bank Niaga, to head up the consumer division marketing department, and then to run institutional marketing for the bank's life insurance subsidiary. After two years of graduate school and an internship at Bankers Trust, Jose spent the next 27 years in the investment banking industry in New York, Asia ex Japan institutional equity sales. After starting at Baring Securities, Jose also worked at ING, Macquarie, RBS, and, finally, at CGS-CIMB where, from 2014 to 2022, he was country head and, in that capacity, entered CGS-CIMB into a partnership with QIC in respect of the North American investor base. Jose left investment banking in 2022 and began a consultancy that has included engagements with an online consumer products company, an energy services company, a business incubator, and an architectural services outsourcing company. He joined QIC as the US Chief Representative in December 2022.
Education & Fun Facts
Jose has a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School, and a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as an elder at his church, speaks four languages, plays jazz piano, and tells Dad Jokes that are a constant source of frustration, and an occasional cause for reluctant laughter, from his wife and his three children.
